Dr Ashvir Basra

Bupa
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Ash completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Liverpool before taking on clinical roles in primary care, secondary care and community services. Having worked in public health part time positions alongside his clinical duties, Ash decided to pursue public health specialist training. He gained a National Training Number in 2018 as a Public Health Specialty Registrar in London and South East region.

Ash has really enjoyed his specialty training so far, working within a variety of organisations such as Local authority, UKHSA and most recently NHSE in placements spanning Screening and Immunisations and Specialised Commissioning. This has provided Ash with valuable experience in working regionally and nationally on large public health projects. As part of his specialist training, he has completed an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Ash saw this scheme as a great opportunity to further nurture and develop his leadership and management skills alongside a cohort of new peers with the same goals. He is looking forward to networking with the fellows and building relationships across specialities and professions. During his training pathway thus far, the importance of building relationships has become increasingly apparent and this fellowship offers great opportunities to start this on a wider scale. The chance to work with senior leaders in a host organisation and receive mentorship is rare and Ash feels very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to take his professional development to a higher level.
