Miss Clare Granger

Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System
Chief Dental Officer's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Clare qualified in Dentistry from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2013, having previously completed a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. After completing her dental foundation year in Northamptonshire, she has undertaken a wide variety of hospital training posts encompassing oral and maxillo-facial surgery, paediatrics, orthodontics and primary dental care.

Clare has recently completed a Master’s in Dental Public Health. She was awarded the GlaxoSmithKline Graduate Researcher Award from the European Association of Dental Public Health, for her project investigating psychosocial predictors, health education and infant dental health. Prior to this fellowship, she was in post as a senior dental officer within Community Dental Services, working with both adult and paediatric patients who are unable to access oral healthcare in general dental services.

Reason for applying for the scheme

During her clinical fellow year, Clare will be working within NHS England on projects including: dental workforce strategy; review of secondary care orthodontic and restorative services; the delegation of dental commissioning to Integrated Care Systems; and review/recommendations for transforming paediatric and special care services in community dentistry. Within her new team, she is especially looking forward to working with, and learning from, a diverse range of management and healthcare professionals. She hopes to gain a more in-depth understanding of the processes involved in the planning and commissioning of healthcare services, and how the newly formed Integrated Care Systems will work in partnerships to meet the health needs and improve the lives of local communities.

Clare is excited about her FMLM year ahead within the Chief Dental Officer's Clinical Fellow Scheme and acknowledges that this will be a year of novel experiences and challenges, which will be both personally and professionally rewarding. She is looking forward to acquiring broader knowledge and new skills to further develop her own leadership and management capabilities but also ultimately to improve the care she offers to patients, whilst furthering her commitment to reducing health inequalities within dental and healthcare populations.
