Dr Elspeth Carruthers

Elspeth Carruthers studied modern languages and worked for the human rights organisation Reprieve before undertaking a graduate medical degree at St George’s, University of London. She completed academic foundation training at North Middlesex Hospital and the Whittington Hospital in the North Central and East London deanery. Her academic post was at the Centre for Public Health Data Science at University College London where she worked on a project to improve healthcare access for inclusion health groups.

Elspeth has led on several quality improvement projects focussing on access to health and has published a number of academic papers in the field of migrant healthcare.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Elspeth is committed to improving access to and quality of healthcare for marginalised populations in the UK. She hopes that this scheme will develop the leadership qualities and skills that will help her work towards this goal while also contributing to her clinical practice.
