Mr Jacob Koris

NHS England
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Jacob Koris is a Trauma and Orthopaedic Registrar in the Oxford Deanery. Having graduated from University College London in 2017, he completed his Foundation Training in the East Midlands South before moving to Oxford for his Core and Higher Surgical Training.

Having experienced the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic had on surgical training, Jacob spent a year as an HEE Improvement Fellow, developing a framework for improving surgical exposure for training surgeons. More recently, Jacob has been working on the HEE Health Innovation Pilot, developing innovative solutions to challenges in operating theatre efficiencies. As part of the NHS Emerging Leaders Programme, Jacob worked with the Big Data Institute to improve patient flow through hospitals, with the goal of developing an algorithm for estimating length of stay for acute admissions.

Jacob has a particular interest in further developing and integrating the use of technology to drive efficiencies in healthcare, including the better utilisation of big data and machine learning.

Jacob spends his free time with his family and friends. Although an avid rugby fan, more of his time recently is spent watching than playing.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Jacob is looking forward to his time working in NHSE, having been assigned to work on operating theatre recovery after the pandemic. He is interested to be part of the process of integrating innovations in both clinical and logistical practice to maximise efficiencies and improve patient care. Jacob looks forward to working as part of a relatively new team, with established healthcare leaders. He looks forward to working alongside other FMLM fellows, in order to share, collaborate and learn from them. Jacob is looking to expand his experience in medical leadership in order to better represent the needs of patients in the future.
