Mr Kevin Cahill

Kevin Cahill studied Pharmacy at Aston University and went on to complete a pre-registration year at Mid Essex Hospitals Trust, after which he went on to join Boots pharmacy as an area relief pharmacist. Subsequently, Kevin worked at North Essex Partnership Foundation Trust and Mid Essex Hospitals Trust as a rotational pharmacist, rotating through multiple specialties. He completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice from the University of East Anglia. Subsequently, Kevin transitioned to become the Lead Antimicrobial Pharmacist at Mid Essex Hospital Trust. He then moved to Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust to work in Acute Medicines as a senior pharmacist. Here, Kevin completed his independent prescribing course with Keele University. Working with the multidisciplinary teams, Kevin has supported and led on numerous quality improvement projects including acute kidney injury care bundles and opioid withdrawal guidelines.

In 2020, Kevin became the Lead Pharmacist for Emergency Medicine at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust. He became responsible for the pharmacy service provision to the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Units and Same Day Emergency Care. In addition to this, he has led on several Trust wide response to national patient safety alerts and has been a key contributor to CQC action plans.

Kevin is passionate about patient-centred care and safety. He is interested in various specialities including emergency medicine, anticoagulation, endocrinology and nephrology. He is undertaking an MSc in Advanced Clinical Pharmacy from University College London.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Kevin applied for the fellowship as it presented a unique opportunity to learn from NHS leaders at the forefront of their professions. This opportunity will help to develop him as a leader and provide access tools to facilitate this. The programme will also provide Kevin with further insight into the challenges facing the NHS of tomorrow and how strategies and policies are being developed to meet these challenges.
