Dr Li Fang

Li Fang graduated from University College London in 2013 with an MBBS and an intercalated BSc in Immunology and Cell Pathology. She completed her Foundation training in the North West and continued there with specialty training where she is currently an ST7 trainee in anaesthetics.

Li's main clinical interest is sustainability in healthcare, in which she has engaged in a variety of activities. These include organising a sustainability teaching day for fellow anaesthetic trainees, being an active member of a Trust theatre sustainability group, involvement in various QI projects on anaesthetic gases and publishing letters in The BMJ and The Guardian on sustainability related topics. She is also a co-author of a BJA Education article on the ecological effects of anaesthesia, which is currently under review. To further her knowledge base, she has undertaken training in carbon footprinting from the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare and received mentorship in carrying out carbon footprinting on a newly-designed piece of PPE.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Li seeks to be an advocate for positive change, particularly in aid of improved sustainability within healthcare. Having engaged in multiple projects that resulted in improved sustainability at the Trust level, she is keen to increase her influence and cascade change more widely. With this scheme, she is looking forward to building on those prior skills and experiences and being able to develop skills in policy development and project management, while collaborating with leaders within the NHS. As one of the Chief Sustainability Officer's Clinical Fellows, she is excited to continue on her journey as a sustainability champion and help the NHS reach its green targets, while the skills gained in the fellowship will undoubtedly make her a more rounded clinician and more effective leader.
