Dr Nazia Imambaccus

NHS England
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Nazia is a Cardiology Registrar based in London. She studied molecular genetics, BSc, 1st Class Hons; and Medicine, MBBS at Kings College London. As a medical undergraduate, Nazia designed and published quality improvement projects (QIP) based in primary and secondary care. Her work received commendation from the Dean of the medical school and has formed part of the core QIP medical curriculum at Kings College London.

Nazia is interested in cardiovascular research and has contributed to published works in Circulation journal with a research group at St Thomas’ Hospital. She has also presented at international conferences including the European Respiratory Society and American College of Cardiology.

Nazia completed Foundation training in North Central London and progressed to Internal Medicine Training in the North-West London deanery. She has worked as a medical registrar in the context of sizeable pressure on the NHS. As well as managing patient care she witnessed the importance of NHS strategy and innovation at these times. She made the decision to broaden her training to include Medical Leadership. She has an NHS Academy Award in Senior Healthcare Leadership, and is a current Executive MBA candidate at a leading European business school.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Nazia applied to the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellowship as she believes that physicians can play a crucial role in directing the future of NHS care. As hybrid clinical leaders, physicians are well placed to combine patient centred clinical thinking with strategic leadership decisions.

She will be completing her Executive MBA with a healthcare specialism during the fellowship year. This will allow Nazia to gain wider insight into the strategic, operational and organisational forces underpinning healthcare in the UK.

As a fellow, Nazia hopes to combine her previous clinical experience and the fellowship to deliver maximal positive impact for patients, colleagues and the wider NHS.
