FMLM supports launch of RCP improving teams resources

Last month, FMLM was pleased to support the development and launch of the Royal College of Physicians Improving Teams in Healthcare series.

Exploring how all healthcare professionals can improve and build upon successful medical team working, the project was also supported by NHS Improvement, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, the Point of Care Foundation and Health Education England.

The resource is separated into four reports, each with a different focus: building effective teams, team culture, team communication and team development. They were informed by the NHS staff survey, CQC acute trust reviews and a roundtable event, attended by doctors of all career grades as well as a wide range of professionals from royal colleges and arms-length bodies. The learning is applied to real life situations through case studies and personal reflections.

The importance of good teamwork, supported by excellent leaders, cannot be overestimated. As the Improving Teams in Healthcare series explains, effective team working reduces medical errors and patient mortality rates, whilst also contributing to better staff outcomes, lower stress levels and greater job satisfaction.

All members are encouraged to read the resources, in parallel with FMLM’s own Leadership and Management standards for healthcare teams, launched earlier this year.
