Mr Patrick Mitchell

Mr Patrick Mitchell currently leads the medical education and programme team within Health Education England. The work covers managing the national systems for selection and recruitment of doctors in training and oversees all aspects of the quality management and governance relating to the programme. The team currently are managing a number of taskforces focussed on innovative solutions to hard to recruit specialties including general practice, emergency medicine and psychiatry. Mr Mitchell also has responsibility for E-Learning for Healthcare, a Department of Health sponsored organised for clinical e-learning packages across the NHS, and directs the Better Training Better Care programme, which seeks to implement the recommendations of the Temple and Collins reports on the delivery of medical education and training.

Previously he was chief operating Officer/deputy chief executive at St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust in south London and worked as director for operations at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust.

Prior to that Mr Mitchell was a management consultant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers health practice in San Francisco. Mr Mitchell started his career as a graduate management trainee in the Trent region and moved to London in 1992 following the Tomlinson report and has worked at a number of London teaching centres including Guy's and St Thomas'.
