Dr Priyanka Singhal

General Medical Council
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Priyanka graduated from the University of Bristol in 2016, where she completed her undergraduate medical degree and intercalated BSc in Physiological Science. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and is a senior radiology registrar in the Severn Deanery. Her special interests lie in Uroradiology and PET-CT imaging.

Priyanka serves nationally on the RCR Junior Radiology Forum (JRF) Executive Committee, as well as being the Severn trainee representative on the RCR JRF. For consecutive years, she has been the year representative for the regional HEE radiology school board and her interest in engaging trainees with leadership and management has led her to become the Founding Chair of the Severn Radiology Leadership Team. Priyanka’s leadership roles within radiology training have followed on from earlier roles of being the Doctors Mess President at QEH, Birmingham, and as the Ladies 1st Team Medics Badminton Captain at the University of Bristol.

Since medical school, Priyanka has engaged with many research and audit projects, which have led to publications in high impact factor journals and international presentations. Priyanka’s interest in teaching has led her to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education and she has organised national undergraduate and regional postgraduate courses since foundation training. She is also active in mentoring as a Professional Mentor for University of Bristol medical students, MBChB Alumni Mentor for foundation doctors, and a Peer Mentor for ST1 radiology registrars.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Priyanka believes in the NHS as one of the best healthcare systems worldwide. With the challenges of the current environment, the NHS stands at a critical time point where effective leadership and management remains invaluable. She believes clinical leaders are uniquely positioned to provide a valuable perspective in meeting these challenges.

Priyanka feels the fellowship scheme provides a unique opportunity to deepen her understanding of healthcare policy, NHS structures, and how effective medical leadership can successfully navigate these ongoing challenges at a national level. Priyanka is excited to gain medical leadership experience through mentoring from healthcare leaders, and hopes to use this invaluable experience in her own future consultant career as a clinician and a leader within the NHS.
