Dr Rebecca Kelly

Rebecca studied dentistry at University College Cork, graduating in 2015. She moved to the UK to complete her Foundation Training in Cornwall. Rebecca completed three years of Dental Core Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine with deaneries in the South West and North West of England. She is now working as a Specialty Registrar in Oral Surgery at University Dental Hospital Manchester.

Rebecca has an interest in education and leadership. She obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Healthcare Professionals from the University of Bristol and is regularly involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. She is also a member of the North West Leadership Schools committee who organise leadership events for dentists and doctors in training in the North West.

Rebecca will continue her specialty training alongside the Chief Dental Officer’s Clinical Fellow Scheme.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Rebecca is keen to further develop her own leadership and management style. She feels a deeper understanding of healthcare policy and how the wider NHS works is essential for clinical leaders of the future. Rebecca opted for a part-time role on the scheme so she could continue her clinical development alongside her new leadership role. She hopes that this will equip her with a unique insight from both the policy maker’s and the clinical team’s perspective.

Rebecca has been involved in several local and regional projects and looks forward to the opportunity of leading on key national projects which contribute to healthcare policy. She hopes that this will help her lead positive change within the healthcare system in future leadership roles.

Rebecca will work with Leadership and Lifelong Learning, People Directorate (NHS England) and is excited to explore and enhance opportunities for dentists in leadership.
