Agents for Change: What junior doctors need to know about interactions with industry, transparency and competing interests

Interactions between healthcare professionals and industry contribute to improved patient care through medical innovation, research and education. However, conflicts of interest that compromise patient care may arise unexpectedly. Junior doctors should be aware of how interaction with industry and competing interests can impact, positively and negatively, on their decision making and future career.

The webinar was conducted by National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellows: Dr Emma Parish, Editorial Registrar, BMJ and Paediatric Speciality Trainee, Dr Kate Adlington, BMJ / NHS England, Dr Abigail Moore, Royal College of Physicans and Respiratory Registrar. The discussions covered:

  1. What is a competing interest?
  2. Why should junior doctors know about this?
  3. How can junior doctors promote transparency?
  4. How should junior doctors declare their competing interests?
  5. How to make use of opportunities and still future-proof your career?
