Miss Riddhi Shenoy

British Medical Journal
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Riddhi studied medicine at Imperial College London and completed her intercalated BSc in Management at Imperial College Business School. She had a keen interest in medical education at university where she led a variety of peer-teaching sessions at local and regional levels, including a reflective practice course to improve team-working. She then helped organise a national mentoring programme at the Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA) and completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education (University of East Anglia). Riddhi has completed her foundation training in East of England and completed her academic foundation project in ophthalmology, which she is keen to pursue as a career. Riddhi is particularly interested in implementing change to improve patient care and has successfully conducted quality improvement projects within ophthalmology as part of her academic role, including facilitating post-procedural assessment to streamline patient journeys. She has also collaborated with colleagues to raise awareness of giant cell arteritis, including the medico-legal implications of missed diagnoses, in the dental community. Riddhi is grateful for the opportunity to work with the British Medical Journal and collaborate with colleagues on the FMLM scheme.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Riddhi believes leadership is about creating and maintaining a supportive community that shares a common goal. Through her Management BSc and her desire to pursue ophthalmology as a specialty, she is interested in the way organisational culture affects implementation of change, particularly with regards to technology. Riddhi hopes to use the fellowship to build on the skills developed during her academic job. She hopes to gain insights into the use of research to advocate for high quality healthcare and the role of medical journalism in health policy.
