Miss Stephanie Ghartey

NHSX 2021/22
Chief Pharmaceutical Officer's Clinical Fellow Scheme 2021/22

Prior to becoming a clinical fellow, Stephanie worked as the Lead Pharmacist for Acute and Emergency Medicine at Whittington Health NHS Trust.

Stephanie is innovative and adaptable, she successfully completed in the national HEE Advanced Clinical Practitioner pilot programme paving the way for pharmacists who have subsequently followed. She is a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP), who delivered care within the ambulatory emergency care unit and acute medicine wards. An ACP is a highly experienced registered professional who is a non-medical prescriber with a larger degree of autonomy and clinical decision-making capability. Stephanie’s role was to improve patient experience which involved assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients who attended the emergency clinic.

Her unique experience in developing a novel role of a pharmacist ACP (both as a pharmacist and qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner) and being a senior clinical pharmacist allows her to empathise and understand a wide variety of perspectives.

Stephanie has held a number of clinical roles in several teaching and general acute hospitals in London, South East and West Midlands. These different experiences have shaped and greatly enriched her career. The variety of responsibilities and roles allows her to easily liaise with a wide range of stakeholders both locally, regionally and nationally.

Stephanie is passionate about equity, diversity and inclusion and had roles as a race/ethnicity and health inclusion clinical fellow as well being part of her Trust’s Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic network steering group.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Stephanie believes pharmacists should be heavily involved in leadership and decision-making within the NHS. She has found clinical practice rewarding but now wants to use her unique experiences to effect greater change and improvement to the lives of many. She hopes the fellowship will provide an opportunity to further develop leadership, management, strategy and project management skills as well as gain further insight into healthcare strategy and policy.

Stephanie was keen to work at NHS X, to be at the forefront of digital healthcare innovation and transformation whilst ensuring that marginalised groups are not left behind and that services are built around the needs of the community.
