Ms Vernise Daji

Health Education England
Chief Pharmaceutical Officer's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Vernise studied pharmacy at the University of Nottingham and started her training at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. After completing her pre-registration year, she went on to begin the STEP residency programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She rotated through various specialties including medicine, surgery, paediatrics and infectious diseases whilst completing her postgraduate diploma with the University College London. She then became a specialist pharmacist and rotated through medicine and surgery. Through the pandemic, Vernise was redeployed to renal and oncology. This led Vernise to her current role as a Specialist Renal, Transplant and Urology Pharmacist where she is an active non-medical prescriber and partakes in weekly renal multidisciplinary meeting and daily ward rounds.

Vernise has been a tutor for trainee pharmacists for three years and thrives off mentoring others. Her role in education and training is exemplified through leading dispensing classes, workshops and teaching for pharmacy, medical and nursing undergraduates and postgraduate students at Kings College London. She has also been a diploma assessor at University College London. Vernise recently became a Speak Up Advocate and hopes to further support others.

Vernise is committed to evaluating, improving and driving patient care and pharmacy services further. She has undertaken numerous audits and quality improvement projects within infectious diseases, paediatrics, gastroenterology and renal specialities where she has implemented change to local practice and presented at national conferences. This motivated Vernise to apply to the fellowship.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Vernise applied to the fellowship as she is committed to enhancing patient-centred care and believes that the fellowship will provide the right balance of challenge and skills to develop her into the healthcare leader she aspires to be.

She believes the fellowship will allow her to apply learning thus far to practice, allowing her to excel into a stronger leader that will help shape her career. It will also provide opportunity to network with likeminded individuals. Vernise is keen to use her background from secondary care and innovation to positively influence at a national level to shape the future of pharmacy services and broaden her understanding of the NHS, health policy, strategy and national priorities.
