Miss Vivian De Vittoris

NHSE Commercial Medicines Directorate
Chief Pharmaceutical Officer's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Prior to starting the fellowship, Vivian was the Lead Pharmacist for Quality Improvement and Medicines Optimisation at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing a wide programme of audit, clinical and service improvement work, most recently supporting the development of the local and ICS Virtual Ward response. Vivian also represented her organisation as part of a Quality & Safety IPMO pillar, helping to shape the collaborative work plan for the coming five years.

Prior to this role, Vivian gained professional experience in both community and secondary care settings, and has held local, regional and national roles within a large community pharmacy provider. Here she supported the redesign of patient pathways and the implementation of new services with the aim to improve access to medicines, patient experience and health outcomes. For example, Vivian introduced a cancer-screening tool in community pharmacy in partnership with the Greater Manchester Cancer Vanguard, as well as supporting the introduction of a pharmacist-led denosumab administration service in a community pharmacy setting.

Vivian’s interest in access to medicines and policy led her to complete an MSc in Global Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, graduating in 2017, having gained some international experience of pharmacy and public health in both Canada and South Africa. She is a QSIR Practitioner, with further qualifications in change management, the latter driven by an appreciation that successful improvement endeavours require an ability to understand and manage the human aspects of change.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Vivian hopes to lead the integration, transformation and improvement of pharmaceutical related care in order to develop services that are equitable, sustainable, patient-centred and of the highest quality. She believes the CPhO fellow scheme will provide invaluable experience to work towards this ambition. Vivian is particularly looking to develop her strategic and political awareness, especially in the context of the evolving healthcare landscape, and to develop into an effective leader that can drive meaningful change at scale.
