Mr Annakan Navaratnam

Clinical Fellow, NHS England and NHS Improvement

Annakan graduated from Imperial College London in 2010 with an MBBS and BSc (1st Class Honours). He is currently a Senior Registrar in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in the North Thames Deanery and has successfully completed his FRCS examinations this year.

During his training, he has led numerous quality improvement and clinical research projects and as a result, has published over 20 scientific publications and delivered over 50 conference presentations nationally and internationally. For this work, he has been recognised with several regional and national awards. His current research interests explore the role of telemedicine and digital innovation to improve surgical training and medical interprofessional communication.

Annakan currently holds a position on the Association of Otolaryngologists in Training committee and is a council member of the Royal Society of Medicine Laryngology and Rhinology Section. He has undertaken multiple leadership roles throughout his training including having founded and chaired the East of England junior surgical trainee committee during his Core Surgical Training. In addition, he has a keen interest in teaching and has organised national and international teaching courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

During his forthcoming fellowship year, Annakan will be taking advantage of the opportunity to build on his understanding of the intricacies of healthcare delivery on a national level and the instruments that can be utilised to drive continual improvements within the NHS.
