35,000 Feet | What’s Stopping you Landing?

A Transformational Development Programme for International Medical Graduates

Many clinicians from other countries find that they struggle with aspects of their life and work in a new country. Challenges around fitting in, fear of the unknown, feelings of loss and separation from family and friends all manifest. Questions arise, such as “What is the new expectation of me, will I have the same status as before”, “Will they accept me?”, “Can I really be me or do I need to change to fit in?

The UK is also undergoing several changes which are contributing to the experiences faced by International Medical Graduates (IMGs). Changing social attitudes, disproportionate Covid impacts on communities, and increasing awareness of social and racial injustice, calling for improved diversity and inclusion practices and behaviours.

Why is this important?

More often than not, the experiences of cross-culturally trained clinicians in the UK are unique and different to those who have lived and trained in the UK. This is not acceptable and requires changes in infrastructure and processes locally, regionally, and nationally across the NHS. In addition, we must support individuals with development opportunities that nurture confidence and build knowledge and skills that empower them to progress their own careers and ambitions.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is designed for International Medical Graduates, Associate Specialist/SAS/Specialty Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, Pharmacists and other incoming clinicians.
