New Consultants development programme
You’ve made it through training and now you’re a consultant – congratulations! But the role is so much more than you expected. FMLM Applied know that making the transition into your first consultant role can be a tricky time. You need to lead teams, influence across an organisation and beyond, continually juggle the balance between saying ‘yes’ and not being overwhelmed. And you’re doing this whilst delivering great clinical care and trying to make friends and influence people. It’s a lot.
FMLM Applied have designed a three-day programme specifically to help new consultants. Stepping into Leadership will give you space to think, to share and to learn. FMLM Applied will help you understand the wider context of health and care, help you understand your organisation and how to lead yourself and others. The programme is designed to be practical, applicable and action orientated.
What can you expect? Three days facilitated online by experienced doctors and leadership development practitioners who understand your world and your challenges. It will be stretching, stimulating, supportive and – fun!
Programme objectives
- To support the transition from trainee to Consultant at a theoretical and practical level – building your confidence and competence
- To understand your role as leader, how to be effective and sustain your impact
- To broaden your world view of the health and care system such that you better understand the role, requirements and opportunities of being a Consultant
- To increase awareness of self and inform your developing leadership style to get the best from yourself and others
- To develop skills and capabilities in leading and working within multidisciplinary teams
- To help you build increased skill and capability in influencing, handling conflict, negotiation and leading change
Workshop 1 – Understanding our context and ourselves – we’ll help you understand how the health and care system fits together, give you time to think about what it means to be a great consultant and enable you to reflect on your leadership style.
Workshop 2 – Engaging and working with others – getting the best from other people is at the core of effective leadership. In this highly interactive workshop we’ll explore how you can lead teams effectively and with compassion. We’ll practice different modes of influencing and negotiating to help you be even more effective.
Workshop 3 – Making change happen – We’ll start by considering the problems you face and different approaches to decision making. But of course making a decision about change is different from being able to make it happen. The second part of the day will be immersed in the messy reality of people and change; giving you tools to help navigate the sometimes choppy waters!
Spaces are limited to sign up now to avoid disappointment.
