Dr Ini Adelaja

Clinical Fellow, NHS England and NHS Improvement

Ini Adelaja is a medical doctor who has completed her foundation training in the North Central Thames Deanery. She is an aspiring dermatologist with a strong interest in leadership, management and how digital innovation can influence the future of healthcare.

Ini gained a 1st class degree for her intercalated clinical science research project entitled “Self-cleaning surfaces”. It involved designing a novel anti-bacterial surface coating for use in hospitals in order to tackle the endemic global health issue of healthcare-associated infections such as MRSA. This was subsequently trialled on the Royal Navy Ship HMS Mountsbay.

In her spare time she has completed a Business Strategy course at Imperial College Business School during which she gained an understanding of business concepts from market leading specialists and entrepreneurs. She has been involved in numerous quality improvement projects and represented on multiple panels such as the Junior Doctors Contract Forum Committee (a platform for junior doctors to raise contractual issues) and the Hospital at Night Committee (improving out of hours care).

Ini enjoys learning languages, cooking, interior design and travelling in her spare time. She will be working at NHS England and NHS Improvement in the Improvement Directorate.

Strong leadership and management is essential for any organisation to thrive. This is of the utmost importance in healthcare where the most crucial outcome is the quality of patient care. I have applied for this scheme to be able to see the NHS from a completely different perspective. It is a unique opportunity to work alongside senior leaders within healthcare, implementing change on a national scale.  It also provides the opportunity to network with like-minded peers on the scheme.
