Dr Sam Bartlett-Pestell

Clinical Fellow, Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP)

Sam studied medicine in Bristol and intercalated in International Health.  He completed Foundation Training in the Oxford deanery before moving to London where he completed Core Medical Training.  He gained valuable experience of a different healthcare system whilst working in Western Australia. He spent time at the lung transplant unit and whilst there enjoyed the great Australian outdoors, surfing and avoiding sharks.

Sam has always been passionate about improving the systems and processes he works within to deliver effective and efficient care to patients.. He is keen to develop as a leader having held a multitude of leadership positions including trainee representative, a university global health society president and he is currently a trustee of a South London charity. 

A passionate educator Sam has delivered teaching programmes to medical students, doctors and nurses.  He  developed as a clinical teacher whilst a teaching fellow at Imperial College.  He obtained a post-graduate certificate in medical education, became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and qualified as an ALS Instructor. Sam returned South of the river as a respiratory registrar where he continues to teach and engage in quality improvement.  

Sam can often be spotted, being 6'7'', as the tallest, and least proficient, person on a skateboard in Crystal Palace park.  When not travelling slowly on a skateboard he can be found running or supporting local cafes by consuming coffee and cake.

As the fellow for the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership, Sam has an excellent opportunity to better understand the challenges facing healthcare organisations and where national quality improvement programmes can have an impact.
