Dr Vanita Gandhi

Clinical Fellow, Health Education England (HEE)

Vanita trained at UCL, graduating with a Distinction in Clinical Medicine and a First Class Honours BSc in Neuroscience. Following Foundation Training and an enjoyable year working in New Zealand, she returned to London to complete Core Medical Training and pursue a career in Clinical Oncology.

She is a strong advocate for patient education and helped establish a virtual reality (VR) education program to better inform cancer patients about their radiotherapy treatment. Following this, she was invited to deliver a ‘TED talk’ styled oral presentation on the use of VR in healthcare at the 2018 National Innovation in Healthcare Education Conference.

Vanita has a special interest in using patient-reported experience and outcomes to improve healthcare quality. She pioneered the establishment of the Noise at Night policy and Silent Hospitals Help Healing = “Shhh” campaign at Royal Free Hospital and was awarded first prize for the initiative within the scope of a ‘Leadership in Health Service’ program.

Medical education remains a true passion. Her experience includes delivering several regional teaching programmes, designing interactive E-Learning Modules for the Royal College of Radiologists and participating in Curriculum Mapping for the Oncology MSc course at the Institute of Cancer Research.

Outside Medicine, Vanita enjoys travelling, hiking, board gaming, and all things Star Trek.

As a fellow at HEE, she hopes to gain skills in policy development, large scale project management, and exploring the use of digital technology to transform workforce training and wellbeing.
