It is with the deepest sadness that we note the death of Dame Clare Marx

It is with the deepest sadness that we note the death of Dame Clare Marx, who was the second Chair of FMLM and so much more.

Thousands of doctors at home and abroad will remember her incredible letter to the profession when she openly and graciously talked of her final illness as the reason for her stepping down as Chair of the GMC.

Those of us privileged to know her well remember a thoughtful, sensitive, assertive, decisive and wise colleague who achieved so much in a stellar career.

The several thousand trees we planted to celebrate her contribution to UK medicine will serve as a modest and lasting FMLM memorial to the best of leaders and a great friend.

Rest in peace Clare, you made the world a better place.
