FMLM Chief recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2021

FMLM's Chief Executive and Founding Senior Fellow joins the growing number of FMLM members and fellows whose exemplary services have been recognised for public honours.

Mr Peter Lees has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, for services to medical leadership.

Peter said:

“I feel privileged to receive this award for medical leadership, which I see as a strong endorsement of the work of FMLM, for which I am indebted to the incredible support and dedication of the small FMLM team as well as my wife and daughter, over the past 10 years.

“This is also a validation of the value and importance of medical leadership in healthcare, and the skilful development of doctors, dentists and multidisciplinary teams to deliver the best possible care for patients in these VUCA times.”

FMLM is proud of the achievements of members and fellows and congratulate those who have been recognised with honours this year.

Professor Carrie MacEwen, Founding Senior Fellow of FMLM, lately Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, has been appointed Dame Commander for services to ophthalmology and healthcare leadership during the Covid-19 response.

Dr Michael McBride, Honorary Founding Senior Fellow of FMLM, Chief Medical Officer for Northern Ireland, has been appointed Knight Bachelor for services to public health in Northern Ireland.

Professor Keith Willett CBE, FMLM member, National Director for Emergency Planning and Incident Response at NHS England and NHS Improvement, has been appointed Knight Bachelor for services to the NHS.

Dr Quentin Sandifer, FMLM member, lately Executive Director of Public Health Services and Medical Director of Public Health Wales, has been awarded an OBE for services to public health in Wales, particularly during the Covid-19 response.

The Queen’s birthday honours for 2021 were announced on Friday 11 June.

Dr Gareth Hynes, Founding Associate Fellow of FMLM and formerly of the FMLM Trainee Steering Group, Specialty Registrar in Respiratory Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust, was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List 2021 for services to medical education during Covid-19.
