Female medical leaders transition guide

FMLM recognises the significant and growing contribution of women doctors to leadership, and the talent they represent. This transition guide aims to give women doctors’ a helping hand to enable them to achieve their potential.

The approach is simple – we asked female doctors what advice they would give their colleagues. We also asked what development they had found valuable that may be useful for others to consider.

The result is a short report which contains the condensed wisdom of 78 doctors from all areas of medicine, representing over one thousand years of collective experience (on average 23 years).

As such, the content is likely to be of value to the more seasoned female medical leader as well as to those who are starting out on their leadership journey. It is not intended to be the definitive treatise, more the sort of wisdom which is hard to find in books.

FMLM would like to acknowledge and thank Penny Newman and NHS Leadership Academy for writing this transition guide.
