Dr Youssof Oskrochi

NHS England
Senior Clinical Fellow 2023/24

Dr Youssof Oskrochi qualified from Imperial College London and went onto train in surgery (MRCS) and public health (MFPH), the latter of which he is due to obtain a CCT in shortly.

He is an experienced public health practitioner with a proven record of delivery internationally, domestically and across multiple sectors including HM Government, NHS, local authorities, third sector and academia. In his recent roles he has led the digital transformation of children and young persons services at local authority level, led the delivery of a UN report for UKHSA and was lead author on a major report highlighting the inequalities in outcomes experienced by ethnic minorities and migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic in collaboration with Doctors of the World and Race Equality Foundation.

Youssof's current focus is on the using digital health and AI in health. Specifically, his interests lie in their use to reduce inequalities and promote health equity, especially amongst those who are traditionally less exposed to preventative interventions and also to improve pathway and systems, improving outputs and sustainability.

Outside of his professional capacity, Youssof is a module lead on MSc in Population Health at UCL and also serves as a clinical product advisor for a health tech company.

He was also previously Chair of the Public Health Medicine Registrars Subcommittee and the Deputy Chair of the Public Health Medicine Committee at the British Medical Association.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Youssof's interests lie at the interface of digital and health. He is keen to explore opportunities where digital interventions can promote a healthier population through a life course approach, but also where digital health approaches can improve and optimise sytstems and processes, making them more sustainable and efficient.

Joining the Transformation Directorate at NHSE provides an opportunity to be directly involved digital health/AI thinking within the NHS and DHSC. Youssof hopes to develop a deep understanding of the digital health ecosystem in the NHS, where the priorities may be over the coming years and the key challenges facing digitisation of workflows and the patient journey.
