Medical Student Group

The Medical Student Group (MSG) is an active section of FMLM working to reach out to all medical schools across the UK, to promote clinical leadership through changes to the curriculum, engaging with societies and promoting the work of FMLM. The MSG has formal reporting responsibilities to the Trainee Steering Group.

The MSG has specific aims to engage medical students to understand the need for and existing opportunities to develop medical management and leadership skills; recruit medical students to join FMLM and provide opportunities for members to be recruited as university representatives and members of the Medical Student Group; develop medical students management and leadership skills and communicate the voice of FMLM student members to other medical students, seniors and externally.

The group has workstreams which are led by the Chair and have responsibility for recruitment and engagement, personal and professional development and communications. Workstream leads are supported by members of their work stream and everyone is competitively appointed from the medical student members. University representatives are the local members of the MSG and help us understand their local medical management and leadership needs and opportunities. Our aim is not to set up FMLM societies at individual medical schools – it is to share resources and expertise between medical schools and support local efforts wherever possible.
