Ms Aideen Dunne

NHS England and NHS Improvement 2021/22
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow Scheme 2021/22

Aideen is a public health registrar with over a decade of experience in public health. Aideen’s passion for public health began during her BSc. Sports Science and Health, which she undertook at Dublin City University. She moved to London to undertake an MSc. Health Promotion and Public Health at Brunel University, to enable her to further develop her interest in population and public health. During her career, Aideen has worked across a diverse range of organisations at a local, regional and national level. Her primary focus and area of expertise has been lifestyle behaviours and behaviour change interventions. Aideen is particularly passionate about the role of wider determinants, such as the physical environment, on health enhancing behaviours.

More recently, Aideen has enjoyed focusing on delivering population health focused initiatives across complex systems. This includes working with senior health leaders in London to ensure the resilience of the public health system during the COVID pandemic.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Aideen is passionate about systems leadership and the power of working across systems to deliver population health outcomes. The scheme presents really exciting opportunities to help deliver health outcomes across national healthcare systems, working directly with national leaders. Her participation in the scheme also comes at a time when the health system and its leadership is due to undergo significant change, and whilst this will be a challenging time Aideen views it as an exciting opportunity for population health and for her as a fellow. She feels participation in the scheme will hugely benefit her as she approaches her final year of training and as a future public health leader.
