Dr Benjamin Moxley-Wyles

NHS England
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2023/24
Doctor

Ben is a Histopathology Registrar based in Oxford. He completed his undergraduate studies at Brighton and Sussex Medical School in 2017, having achieved a 1st Class Honours BSc in Clinical Sciences (Molecular Medicine) at the University of Leeds in 2015. After graduating, he completed his foundation training in the Oxford deanery. During this time, he was a member of the BMA local negotiating committee, successfully negotiating local contract improvements and advocating for doctor colleagues. He also achieved an NHS Leadership Academy Award in Leadership Foundations.

After foundation training, Ben gained an honorary contract in histopathology at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He spent several months writing, presenting, and publishing academic works that focused on digital pathology and artificial intelligence.

During the last three years, as a histopathology registrar, Ben successfully influenced local workforce planning to increase training opportunities whilst maintaining adequate service provision. He facilitated culture change to embrace digital working and improvements in inter-departmental communication via quality improvement projects. Ben also continued to advocate for doctor colleagues as a representative on the local junior doctors’ forum.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Ben believes that high quality leadership skills are vital for all clinicians. Bridging the gap between clinicians and managers is crucial for a well led healthcare system.

This fellowship is a unique opportunity to become fully immersed in the medical leadership space and grow as a leader. It offers significant insight into the NHS at a national level, as well as the wider healthcare sector, and provides excellent structured training in leadership. This is an amazing chance to learn from senior leaders and peers alike. Ben is excited to be joining the FMLM National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow Scheme and NHS England.
