Dr David Faluyi

Academy of Medical Royal Colleges / NHS England
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2023/24
Doctor

David studied medicine at Bart’s and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry with numerous awards for academic excellence. He completed an academic foundation programme with a theme in medical education at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. During his time here he created and led a series of teaching programmes for medical students and foundation doctors. His passion for quality improvement drove him to work to improve the quality of feedback that foundation doctors receive during training, presenting this work internationally. During the COVID pandemic he worked as a clinical research fellow at the NIHR biomedical research centre in Manchester where he worked on the recruitment of patients into large international studies, gaining experience in the successful co-ordination and execution of large international research studies.

In 2020 he joined the newly formed NIHR race equality public action group where alongside working in the NHS he was able to lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the co-creation, design, and implementation of the NIHR’s Race Equality Framework, an influential national research policy working to equalise research outcomes across the UK.

He is currently completing internal medicine training at King’s College London where he has recently obtained his MRCP. David is passionate about improving patient safety and outcomes and has an interest in the use of digital technologies to transform care within the NHS. Alongside his clinical work he works as a clinical advisor for a digital health start-up called Changing Health which is using digital tools to manage chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Reason for applying for the scheme

David is driven by his passion to make healthcare delivery safe and effective for all. David hopes that this fellowship provides the opportunity to make an impact at a national level to improve patient safety and outcomes, particularly for diverse groups. He hopes to use the experiences amassed in his clinical career and non-clinical roles to provide influential insights in the development of national strategy and policy.

David understands the importance of effective medical leadership and this fellowship will provide the opportunity to learn from a wide range of medical leaders at the highest level. He hopes to use these experiences to develop his own leadership style that can be used to lead teams within the NHS and beyond.

David is excited to take up the joint post between NHS England and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. The role provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in two organisations that while different, both have important and far-reaching influence. He hopes that this experience will help develop a career within healthcare management and healthcare strategy, with a particular focus on digital health.
