Dr Josie Cheetham

Trainee Steering Group Chair, outgoing Wales and inclusive leadership lead

Josie is a GPST3 training in South Wales, previously an ACCS trainee. She joined the TSG as the lead for Wales and was also the inaugural inclusive leadership lead. Josie was the BMA’s Welsh Junior Doctor chair for four years, Welsh Council member for five years and is currently finishing a second term as the Wales representative and deputy chair of UK GP Trainees Committee. She co-founded the Welsh branch of Next Generation GP.

 Josie is passionate about equality, diversity and inclusivity, developing an EDI strategy for the TSG amongst other work and her Masters in Medical Education research project explored the experiences of educators in supporting trainees with a specific learning difference.

She believes deeply in the importance of civility in healthcare and leadership, is a member of the Civility Saves Lives campaign and has published on the importance of civility in education.

Josie founded and maintains the SOS box (Sanitary/period products On Site) initiative, with boxes sent out across the NHS in Wales, outreach to England, Northern Ireland and Scotland and Malta and securing long-term Health Board adoption of the SOS boxes within two Welsh regions.
