Dr Julia Darko

NHS England
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2022/23

Julia Darko is a specialty trainee in General Practice (GPST2) at the Kings VTS Scheme in South London. Julia is passionate about good primary and population healthcare. After completing medical school training at UCL in London, she spent two years undertaking her foundation programme in Leicester. Following this, she ventured into specialty training in public health completing a Masters in Public Health at the University of Liverpool and working in a local public health team. She returned to clinical training after a short while recognising her desire to maintain a patient facing role. As a result, she embarked on specialty training in General Practice acknowledging that working in primary care provides the opportunity to contribute to both aspects of clinical and population healthcare. In addition, Julia is currently co-chairing the RCGP's national trainee (AiT) network.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Julia is determined to work to improve primary healthcare as a pathway to reducing health inequalities. She has developed an interest in health policy development and implementation as she has found this brings together her professional experience in both public health and primary care. She hopes the National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow Scheme will provide her with an unparalleled opportunity to gain practical experience in health policy development and implementation at national level and to gain valuable learning working alongside experts in the field of healthcare delivery.
