eNews January: Spotlight on... Dr Daghni Rajasingam

Dr Daghni Rajasingam is a consultant obstetrician at Guy and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust Hospital. She is on the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Council as the London Member representative. She is one of FMLM’s Regional Leads for London and is actively involved in the Clinical Leaders Network.

Describe your role in one sentence

My overarching aim is to influence women’s healthcare both nationally and internationally, empowering clinicians and those who deliver women’s services to do a better job.

What are your main challenges and how do you overcome them…

My main challenges are: Firstly, to push women’s health issues higher up the political agenda both nationally and internationally. Secondly, it’s to support and empower female clinicians to lead at a professional level.  And lastly, to encourage the participation of the patient voice in the improvement agenda.

To overcome these, I use my roles within the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and support its work on setting standards for the provision of high quality care.

I also use my role within the Global Health Unit at the RCOG to further the global health agenda for women and their reproductive rights.

How does FMLM fit in?

I see it as an important and critical role for the FMLM to facilitate and promote doctors to develop the leadership skills needed to provide better healthcare and to enable more partnership working across organisations within the NHS landscape.
