What competencies do you assess against?
A bespoke set of behavioural competencies have been developed by the FMLM specifically to measure the leadership characteristics most required from doctors at different levels within the NHS.
Will the development centre support doctors’ revalidation?
Yes, this can support revalidation.
What should I expect from the development centre?
Participants should expect:
- Challenging, in depth yet supportive conversation
- Activities that will stretch you
- Feedback after each exercise from a chartered occupational psychologists
- An in-depth report written specifically around the evidence generated from the day
- An indication of your readiness to step up.
What type of activities do you carry out?
Depending upon the level of leadership we are assessing there will be a variety of assessment and evaluation tools including simulation activities, role plays, a 360 and range of psychometrics.
Is it a full day?
The development centre (which we may call a leadership diagnostic) will either be half a day or a whole day depending upon the level being assessed. The report will be written typically within the 2 – 3 days following the assessment.
Does it link with the NHS Medical 360?
Yes, and if needed the medical 360 can be used. The behavioural competencies that underpin our 360 are a preferred choice however on the basis that they have a stronger focus around required leadership capabilities.
What does this cost?
This depends upon the level of assessment. There can be significant economies of scale depending upon the volume of doctors that require assessment e.g. Trusts request a large number of assessments enabling use of an assessment centre rather than 1 to 1.
One to one sessions are:
- From £2,200 per person (+VAT) for the ½ day assessment (assuming two per day)
- From £3,600 per person (+VAT) for the full day assessment.
