About me
I am a practising General Practitioner [GP] and have practised medicine for over twenty-five years, first as a hospital doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the last thirteen years as a GP. I was the Lead Partner at my practice for five years with management responsibilities for the practice manager and administration staff. I therefore understand first-hand the pressures doctors face to not only provide evidence based care for patients but also to do this within a framework that makes the best use of increasingly dwindling NHS resources. My experience in managing practice staff while I was Lead Partner also means that I understand the role of doctors, particularly GPs, in managing both staff and resources.
Coaching Process
My coaching style is non-directive but very much transformational. Using effective questioning I challenge my clients to look deep within themselves to increase awareness of where they are currently, where they would like to go and what might be stopping them from getting there. I use various tools to achieve this awareness but mainly around the framework of the GROW model. Once this is done, we then explore options and possibilities resulting in a plan of action that he or she can take in order to achieve the desired outcomes. I try very much to tailor my style to the individual and their particular circumstance providing support and encouragement when it is needed but also not being afraid to challenge limiting beliefs or inaction when these interfere with progress. At the start of the coaching alliance, clients are encouraged to be open about any issues with the coaching process as they arise and this includes a formal review after a few sessions just to make sure there are no unresolved issues with my style of coaching or the support they are receiving.

I am certified to administer and interpret the DISC personality profile and this is a tool that I have found very helpful in increasing awareness in my clients.
I was the Lead Partner at my Surgery for five years and this gave me first hand management experience that has been useful in understanding better the context of people that I coach.
I have led teams in various settings in both the medical and non-profit sectors and continue to do so and this has given me experience in working with different personalities and abilities.
