Mr Oliver Manley

NHS England and NHS Improvement 2021/22
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow Scheme 2021/22

Oliver Manley studied Medicine at the University of Manchester and graduated in 2014 with an intercalated Masters degree in Tissue Engineering for Regenerative Medicine. Oliver completed the academic foundation programme and core surgical training in Oxford, where his research focussed on the role of genetics on surgical outcomes in Dupuytren's disease, and national trends in hand trauma, work that was published and presented nationally. Oliver is currently an ST4 in Plastic Surgery in the Wessex / Thames Valley deanery.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Oliver has always had a keen interest in healthcare policy and its role in shaping the NHS and hopes this fellowship will give him a much better understanding of how the wider NHS works. He ultimately hopes this will give him an insight into how to better drive improvements to the system.

Throughout his training he has seen and been inspired by good medical leaders that have made a real difference to patient care locally and is looking forward to learning from medical leaders working at the national level, envisioning and implementing large scale projects. Oliver hopes that the experience of this fellowship early in his career will give him the necessary management skills to improve care for his patients at a local and national level both throughout the rest of his training and as a consultant.
