Mr Peter Lees

Director of Business Development, FMLM Applied

Peter Lees is the Director of Business Development, FMLM Applied. Formerly the Chief Executive of FMLM, he led the foundation of the organisation, mandated by the UK medical royal colleges and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. He oversaw the transition to an independent charity in 2019 and led the establishment of the co-owned journal BMJ Leader and the FMLM international leadership conference. He also led the establishment and growth of the national and latterly, regional clinical fellowship schemes.

Previously, he combined a career in neurosurgery with senior roles in operational management and leadership development at trust, regional and national levels and in global health. He was Medical Director, Director of Workforce and Education and Director of Leadership at NHS South Central Strategic Health Authority and Senior Lecturer in Neurosurgery at the University of Southampton until 2011.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a Senior Fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, Honorary Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators and a former Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He was awarded an MBE for services to medical leadership in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2021.
