Leadership in the NHS

The report helpfully tackles the two subjects separately, but their distinction is worth exploring further; management is perhaps the more generic term, and an understanding of how this has changed may offer insights into the role and manner of leadership.

This Editorial in the BMJ that examines the challenges facing the NHS, and proposes professionally based systems as an answer to some of the difficulties with the present system. It is written by Jonathan Shapiro, senior lecturer in health services research, Sabina Rashid, honorary research associate.
