Lilly Lecture 2012

Lilly Lecture 2012

The FMLM partnered with the Royal College of Physicians to present the prestigious Lilly Lecture on 24 April 2012.This year the event was held at the Royal College of Physicians.

The guest lecturer, Professor Thomas H Lee MD, of the Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health spoke on the topic: ‘Implementing the Value Framework: the Clinician’s Perspective’.

FMLM members who were unable to attend will be able to view the Lilly Lecture on the member’s area of our website.

At the event, a number of Lilly Lecture attendees shared their thoughts on medical leadership:

“The Lilly lecture provided me a new perspective on medical leadership. Professor Thomas Lee's explanations of strategies that ensure patients receive the best value health care, and also feel valued, were inspiring. As this is not directly taught at medical school, it was highly educational. Professor Lee summarised the importance of medical leadership when he said 'it is not about competition, but about collaboration'.”

Elizabeth Emsley, 4th Year Medical Student, Imperial College London

"I am a Non-Executive Director of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is recognised as one of the top performing Trusts in the country. I am firmly convinced that much of the Trust's success comes from it having no fewer than four Medical Directors on its Board. This highly unusual governance structure seems, to my mind, to demonstrate strength of the medical leadership model."

The FMLM would also like to thank Professor Lee, the RCP and all Lilly Lecture attendees.
