Dr Sachin Sharma

UK Health Security Agency
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2023/24
Doctor

Sachin Sharma completed his medical degree at Imperial College London, graduating in 2018, before completing Foundation training at Epsom and St Helier and Frimley Park Hospitals.

Sachin stayed on at Frimley Park following completion of the Foundation programme, continuing to work clinically in the Accident and Emergency Department during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also leaning on his early-career experience in medical education to design and deliver a programme of high-fidelity medical simulation training for his A&E colleagues. During this time, he was also heavily involved in quality improvement activity, with the aim of improving patient flow through the hospital.

During his time at Frimley Park, Sachin also developed an interest in medical leadership, serving for two years as the Deputy Chair of the Frimley Park Junior Doctors’ Forum, during which time he engaged with a variety of stakeholders to improve doctors’ working conditions.

Currently, he is a specialty trainee in General Practice (GPST3) at the Kingston VTS in South London, and has served as a VTS representative for his colleagues whilst in this role. He is also the current Honorary Secretary of the London Regional Council of the BMA, serving on the Executive Committee of the LRC, where he continues his work in advocating for doctors’ pay and conditions.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Sachin believes that effective leadership is key to good organisational governance, and considers the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow Scheme the ideal opportunity to work at an organisational level and gain a deeper understanding of what makes an effective leader.

He looks forward to networking with likeminded colleagues, and hopes to gain experience in new ways of working, that can then be taken forward to address some of the key emerging challenges in Primary Care.
