NHS Midlands Regional Medical Directorate
National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow 2023/24
Doctor

Sonia studied medicine at King’s College London and undertook an intercalated BSc in Nutrition. She completed her foundation training in the Midlands and then carried out core medical training in the East of England Deanery. Throughout her training she has held many leadership roles. At medical school she was elected Dermatology Society President and during foundation training she was appointed as a local BMA representative. She is currently a higher trainee in Dermatology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and has continued to build upon her leadership experience as Dermatology trainee representative and more recently in a national role as trainee representative for the British Hair and Nail Society.

Throughout her training, Sonia has completed numerous quality improvement projects and presented at the national RCP QIP showcase event. Her findings have contributed to the development of local services such as streamlining of acute dermatological patients, improving quality of clinic referrals and also developing a diverse and inclusive protocol for photography for hair loss patients.

Alongside her training, she has completed a PG Cert in Medical Education at Cambridge University and has helped to create a teaching course for GP trainees in important Dermatological presentations.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Sonia is passionate about leadership and management within healthcare. She is delighted to have been appointed to the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow Scheme and to be joining NHS England. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to not only build upon her existing leadership skills, but to network and form relationships with leaders in healthcare. She is enthusiastic to learn from senior leaders and experts to gain a better understanding of healthcare delivery. She hopes to take these skills forward to support women and those from BAME backgrounds in healthcare leadership.
