About Me
I have been coaching doctors since 1983, when I set up Creative Careers, the first independent careers consultancy for doctors in the UK. My own career has itself been very creative, taking in along the way activities as varied as clinical biochemistry, family practice abroad, management training and consultancy, marketing and sales, corporate and executive coaching and experience as a participant in psychodynamic psychotherapy, bioenergetics and Grof Holotropic breathwork. I am now working as a consultant physician in general medicine in Peterborough while expanding my training, coaching and personal development activities.
I hope that through working with FMLM, I will be able to bring the benefit of such wide medical, commercial and coaching experience to bear in helping more doctors become excellent leaders.
Coaching Process
The approach to coaching that I use is based on the principle that my clients can and will provide the answers that will enable them to move towards creating a successful and constructive career and a happy life, given the right support and encouragement. I draw techniques from coaching and management theory, my wide knowledge of human evolution and development, NLP and related modalities, my long experience of psychological therapies and from my more than 40 years practising clinical medicine. This is supported by clear contractual agreements in which goals and expectations are explicitly evolved and stated.
All this enables me to engage easily, deeply and enjoyably with my clients, creating a space of trust and safety (and good humour) in which they can explore remove barriers to success and fulfilment.
What can I offer you?
I have many years' experience of working with doctors at all stages of their careers, assisting them in making decisions about their work and career development so they can make best use of their talents and skills and bring them joy and fulfilment. This applies whether they are still in training, newly appointed consultants or experienced medical managers. My skill is in helping people recognise and become comfortable with who they really are so that they can, if they wish, achieve goals that they would not previously have considered possible.
