Dr Vin Diwakar

Vin Diwakar is the Regional Medical Director for the London Region for NHS England and is a practising Consultant General Paediatrician. He provides clinical leadership to the wider London health system with a particular focus on delivering the priorities set out in the Five Year Forward View, Better Health for London and the Devolution MoU for urgent, integrated and emergency care, the transformation of primary care, prevention and reducing inequalities and improving cancer outcomes. He is the Higher Level Responsible Officer for the re-licensure and appraisal of Responsible Officers in the NHS and private sector in London and co-chair of the London Clinical Senate Forum.

Vin is a highly experienced clinical leader who has shaped the care of children and young people with common, rare and complex conditions in different organisations in Birmingham, the West Midlands and nationally.  In addition to this work, he has held senior leadership roles in medical education and contributed to the content of the NHS Constitution. He has many years of experience working as medical director, at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and before that at Birmingham’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has a long standing interest in the development of clinical leaders, and has set up leadership programmes, mentored clinical leadership fellows and been an active member of a Medical Directors’ Action Learning Set.
