The four steps of leadership development

The workshop provided an introduction to medical leadership and management, covering the essentials of what medical leaders need to know to start developing their leadership skills and deliver improvements to the NHS from both a clinical and organisational perspective. It was the ideal place for students and doctors in training to meet innovators in the field.

Medical leadership opportunities: beyond formal roles

This session drew on learning from The King’s Fund’s case studies and current work on engaging doctors in contributing formally and informally to the cultures that they are part of. It offered participants the opportunity to hear from medical leaders of diverse organisational backgrounds. The discussions looked at how non-NHS organisations create opportunities and a culture which involves doctors in informal leadership roles and how these sit as part of developing a pipeline of medical talent.

Scotland and Wales National Meetings

These interactive regional sessions gave FMLM members from Scotland and Wales the chance to discuss the principles of a shared vision for their regional networks. The discussions revolved around questions such as: What do the the Leadership and Management Standards for Medical Professionals mean for medical leadership?  What opportunities does the integrated health system bring in terms of working differently?

FMLM Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting was an interactive session during which members had the chance to hear about recent FMLM achievements and the key strategy objectives for the future. We also launched our Annual Report 2014 which outlines the key activities that kept us busy last year, focusing on: developing the evidence base, professionalising medical leadership, maximising the potential of medical leaders and suporting our members across the UK.
