What next for medical leaders?

Listen back to the first in our two part series of webinars 'What next for medical leaders? Current debates and future issues in the professionalisation of medical leadership.'

Since 2005, there have been concerted attempts towards an institutionalisation of medical leadership (the way in which the medical profession adopts and colonises this field of leadership).

This has been offered through membership of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management and the creation of credentials including fellowship of FMLM and standards for medical leadership. This has all been done with the aim of producing doctors better equipped to deal with the political and social concerns of the NHS.

But there are still questions that many would struggle to answer, including what medical leadership looks like, and how one would identify a medical leader.

This presentation led by Simon Moralee, University of Manchester and Prof Mark Exworthy, University of Birmingham with contributions from clinical leader Daghni Rajasingam and academic Prof Ian Kirkpatrick, University of Warwick to explore this topic in further detail to gain a better understanding of the impact of leadership roles and identities on the medical profession and the NHS.

You can still sign up to join us for our second webinar on 25 October from 6.30pm where we will hear from guest speakers Professor Gerry McGivern, University of Warwick and Dr Sean O'Kelly, Medical Director (Professional Leadership), NHS Improvement.

This series of two webinars aims to consider the above contentions and prefaces a related conference session at Leaders in Healthcare (10.45am to 12.00pm on 15 November 2018) in which the presenters will explore this topic in further detail to gain a better understanding of the impact of leadership roles and identities on the medical profession and the NHS.
