Scottish Ambulance Service - Foundation Leadership and Management Programme

The Scottish Ambulance Service is on the frontline of the NHS, despatching immediate medical assistance or clinical advice to over 5 million people across Scotland.  We provide ambulance care to patients who need support to reach their healthcare appointment, or for their admission to and discharge from hospital, due to their medical or clinical needs.  We also transfer some of Scotland's most serious patients and support the ongoing response to the COVID 19 pandemic through our Mobile Testing Units.

The programme is divided into four components.  These are: Introduction, Modules and Tutorials, Portfolio, and Masterclass.  All components are mandatory and must be completed in the correct order.  The entire programme will take 12 months to complete. 

The Introduction is a 1-day package of virtual lessons delivered over MS Teams.  It comprises nine separate lessons.  Participants must attend the entire day of virtual training in a single session.  Once they have completed the Introduction they will progress to the next component.

The Modules and Tutorials component consists of five separate modules and five separate tutorials.  These are completed alternately, with one module or tutorial being completed each month, over 10 months.  Each module consists of an e-Learning package that takes approximately 90 minutes to complete.  The e-Learning module can be completed by the participant at any point in the month.  Each tutorial directly relates to the previous module.  The tutorials are instructor led and conducted over MS Teams.  They are approximately 90 minutes in duration.

Concurrent to the modules and tutorials, participants will complete a portfolio.  The portfolio is record of the practical application of the knowledge and skills learned on the FLMP.  It is completed alongside the modules and tutorials, and the content is directly linked.  It is signed-off as complete by the Area Service Manager or equivalent.  The Portfolio must be completed prior to attending the final component of the programme. 

The Masterclass is a 1-day package of lessons delivered face-to-face.  It comprises seven separate lessons.  The Masterclass cannot be attended virtually
