Join three clinical fellows whilst they discuss why they applied, and what they are doing now with a chance to ask them questions.

FMLM members should not miss the chance to speak in front of the current and future leaders of our health service.

The call for speakers initiative gives you an opportunity, as an individual or an organisation, to submit a proposal to speak or run an interactive session as part of the main conference programme at Leaders in Healthcare 2018. Your proposals will capture the current thinking and challenges in the areas of healthcare management and clinical leadership.

FMLM welcomes the announcement that Miss Clare Marx, CBE DL FRCS SFFMLM, has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list for 2018 for her services to surgery in the NHS.

Are you interested in applying for the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow Scheme 2018/19?

If you’d like to hear more about the scheme from current and past fellows, join our webinar.

The first half of the webinar will be an introduction to current and past fellows about their roles and projects they have been involved with. This will be followed by a Q&A session where you can ask the panel questions.

Candidates have until 18 January to complete their applications for the National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow Scheme.

The scheme, now in its seventh year, offers the opportunity for doctors in training to spend one year working with some of the most senior medical leaders in healthcare in England.

FMLM welcomes today’s announcement that Professor Stephen Powis will take up the role of National Medical Director at NHS England. This will follow the retirement of Professor Sir Bruce Keogh at the end of this year.

Professor Powis is the inaugural editor-in-chief of the journal, BMJ Leader (co-owned by FMLM) and has been a valued supporter of FMLM with a deep commitment to medical leadership and management.

Mr Peter Lees, FMLM Chief Executive and Medical Director, said:

The second annual Leaders in Healthcare conference came to a successful conclusion last week after an outstanding line-up of speakers, many new connections forged and much learning for FMLM members and others to take back to their organisations.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has pointed to the crucial role that leaders have played in the past year in maintaining standards when the health and care system is "straining at the seams", and highlights the importance of leaders in helping transform struggling services and creating outstanding ones.

FMLM has received a growing number of applications for Fellowship over the summer.

Members are reminded to submit applications for FMLM Fellowship by 19 October to qualify for ‘Founding’ Fellowship status. This applies to all three levels of Fellowship.

More than 40 new successful applicants are eligible for inclusion at the Founding Fellows ceremony at Leaders in Healthcare conference in Liverpool, 31 October – 1 November 2017.
